Mutiara International Grammar School

MIGS is located in Ampang Jaya, a well-regarded residential area in the eastern suburbs of Kuala Lumpur that is popular with expatriate families. The school is conveniently situated for access to the city center and is close to various amenities including shops and restaurants.

MIGS is a co-educational day school. It does not offer boarding facilities.

For students who require support with their English language skills, the school offers an English as an Additional Language (EAL) program at no extra cost. The school works with external transport providers to offer a bus service to students. This is a private arrangement between parents and the transport operators, and the vehicles are equipped with safety belts and are air-conditioned.

MIGS offers a curriculum based on the Cambridge Assessment International Education pathway for students from ages 3 to 18. The Early Years section (Nursery and Reception) follows the UK's Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, which is a play-based program incorporating elements from Reggio Emilia and Montessori approaches. In the Junior School (Years 1-6), students study the Cambridge Primary curriculum, covering core subjects like English, Mathematics, and Science, alongside a broad range of other subjects including humanities, arts, and languages like Mandarin. The Senior School is divided into Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) and Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11). In Key Stage 4, students undertake a two-year International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) course, culminating in examinations from Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). Core IGCSE subjects include English and Mathematics, with a wide range of optional subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Business Studies, Accounting, ICT, and Art and Design.

Submit an application. After your visit, you will need to complete an application form and submit it along with the required documents. These include copies of your child's and your own identity documents, previous school reports, and passport-sized photos. A non-refundable application fee is required at this stage.

Entrance Test. Your child will need to take an entrance test to assess their learning skills and language proficiency. The type of test depends on the year group: Reception applicants undergo a two-day in-class observation, while older students take written or online tests (CAT4 and NGRT).

Interview. Based on the test results, you and your child will be invited for an interview with the relevant Head of School. This is a chance for the school to learn more about your child and for you to ask any remaining questions. Following the interview, the school will inform you if a place can be offered.

MIGS offers a limited number of academic scholarships for both new and existing students in Years 9, 10, and 11. These scholarships provide a 25% discount on tuition fees and are awarded based on high academic achievement, English fluency, active participation in co-curricular activities, and leadership potential. The scholarships are reviewed annually and are dependent on the student maintaining their academic performance and conduct. The application process typically involves submitting an application form, academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a CV.

The school does not operate a formal waitlist system. Applications are accepted throughout the year, but places are limited in each class and year group.
